Jeffry J. Grainger is a Managing Partner at The Foundry, a leading medical device incubator that has started more than a dozen pioneering companies that have transformed the treatment of a variety of widespread diseases. Prior to joining The Foundry, Mr. Grainger served as Vice President of Corporate Affairs and General Counsel at Xtent, a developer of drug-eluting stent systems that completed an initial public offering in 2007.

From 1993 to 2000, Mr. Grainger served as Chief Patent Counsel of Heartport, a developer of devices for minimally invasive heart surgery that completed an initial public offering in 1996 and was later acquired by Johnson & Johnson. In addition, Mr. Grainger founded First to File, a developer of a cloud-based system for automating patent process workflow, where Mr. Grainger served as Chief Strategy Officer and board member until the company’s acquisition in 2002.

Mr. Grainger also was an attorney at Townsend & Townsend, a leading intellectual property law firm, and held positions as a Licensing Specialist at the British Broadcasting Corporation and Robotics Engineer at Boeing Electronics Company.

Mr. Grainger received a Juris Doctor with Honors from the University of Washington School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. Mr. Grainger is an inventor on more than 30 issued or pending US patents, and was a Kauffman Entrepreneur Fellow with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation from 2009 to 2011.
